In a historic ruling today, the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs Wade and gave abortion rights back to the states, and declared that abortion isn’t a constitutional right. We couldn’t be happier with this decision and are so thankful that after almost 50 years, a decision that slaughtered millions of babies, is itself dead.
So now what… what can we as Christians and the church do for the women who find themselves in unintended pregnancies who are looking for help instead of abortion? First, we can love both women and their babies well. Life Options Network is a safe place for women who are scared and confused. We walk beside women throughout their pregnancy and beyond, our advocates are there in person and by phone for each step of this process. In order to keep territory in this battle, it’s vitally important that we replace the system of death with a system of life. We know there are women who will choose abortion no matter what we do, but for most, cultivating a culture of life is acknowledging the needs of women and families who become pregnant unexpectedly or who are struggling financially.
As an organization, we strive for excellence and to meet the needs of as many women as possible in our local communities. We believe PROVISION will speak to the hearts of women in this hour, to shift culture. Besides giving to organizations like Life Options Network, here are some other ideas on how you can create a culture of life and help women now that Roe vs Wade has been overturned-
- Connect with your local church and have them call Life Options Network to partner with us in opening a free store in their area. They can also partner by supporting us and other pro-life support groups, financially and with donations.
- Offer to babysit for single moms who need help and women who are unexpectedly pregnant. Watch their kids while they run errands or go to a doctor’s appt.
- If you know of a pregnant teen, make an effort to be in their life and invite them to things like Life Options Network’s teen nights where they can meet others in the same situation.
- PRAY, never forget that prayer is the most powerful action we can take. Pray that women and men will choose life for their babies.
- Wear a pro-life shirt and post on social media. You might not think this will impact much but it can open discussions that bring about change.
- Vote! Vote for pro-life politicians that support women and the laws that affect them.
- Advocate for better maternity leave laws in the workplace. Many women think they need abortions because they will lose their job if they get pregnant. Support businesses that support pregnancy and motherhood.
- Adopt or foster. We know this isn’t for everyone but prayerfully consider if your family can become a foster parent or adopt a child. If you don’t feel called to this you can still give your money to adoptive and foster families, and you can support them in tangible ways like baby showers, offering to watch their children, cleaning their house, etc.
- “Adopt” a single parent and their family. Include them in holidays and outings that your family takes. They will love it and your family will be beyond blessed!
- Volunteer at a local pregnancy or women’s organization. If you don’t have time or can’t volunteer in person, ask them if they need any online help with things like their social media, bookkeeping, or IT.
You might feel like abortion is such a huge and all-encompassing problem in our nation that nothing you do will help, but you CAN make a difference! Together we can ALL make a difference in the lives of struggling women around us.
